Include asset details such as serial numbers and condition, the transfer date, and the names of the custodians. The transferring unit provides the transfer documents and hands over the item, while the receiving unit acknowledges receipt and updates its records. This creates an accurate ledger, supports audits, and assigns liability to the correct unit. Simply moving the item without recording the transfer leaves no trace of responsibility and can lead to loss or misplacement in audits; doing nothing is not acceptable; and reassigning to the same unit does not reflect an actual transfer.
